Campaign Issues
Pamela Cort is ready to tackle the many educational issues that our community faces in order to make Las Cruces a better place.
Safety and well-being
Pamela works tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of our students. During Pamela’s tenure, the Board has installed weapon detection systems at all middle and high schools, the Verkada sign-in system, and Ring cameras at all schools. The Board has also created and reviewed policies dealing with safety, most notably Policy JICFA – Bullying, Cyberbullying, Racialized Aggression and Harassment. It is important to remember that students cannot learn if their basic needs are not taken care of. It is our job as a community to make sure schools provide a welcoming and nurturing environment, where every student THRIVES.
Policy and Budget
Pamela is proud of the work that the Board has done to create policies that reflect the needs and the vision of the schools. The Board is constantly reviewing and revising policies so that they remain current and relevant. Please take a look at the Board’s policies here: https://www.lcps.net/
The Board has worked together with the Finance Department to create a year-round budget process that involves staff, students, and community. This increased transparency has facilitated the Board’s understanding of the District’s finances and given the public a clearer view of where the money is spent and why.
Student Success
Pamela will work on policy decisions that directly impact our multi-lingual and multicultural students. As a society, we believe that every child has a right to be educated. As an classroom educator who served students and families for 31 years, Pamela wants to continue advocating for all students to have excellent, safe, and inclusive schools. There has been a steady increase in the graduation rate (see below) since Pamela joined the Board of Education. Chronic absenteeism is down by three percent. (Source: lcps.net)

Community Involvement
Pamela wants to continue to create opportunities for educators, families, and communities to work together to make sure all students succeed. Las Cruces Public Schools is working toward that goal by creating seven (so far!) Community Schools. These schools are a wonderful example of how educators, families and communities enhance opportunities for the whole child. Pamela will continue her support of Community Schools remembering that we work better together! Here are the key practices for Community Schools:
- Powerful student and family engagement
- Expanded and enriched learning opportunities
- Culture of belonging, safety, and care
- Collaborative leadership with shared power and voice
- Rigorous, community-connected classroom instruction
- Integrated systems of support
