Meet Pamela Cort
Pamela Cort has been a teacher in the New Mexico Public School system for 31 years, 26 of which were in Las Cruces. She is also the grand-daughter, daughter, and mother of public school educators. Although she retired in May 2019, she has continued her education work through involvement with professional teacher organizations and creating professional development opportunities for educators. The next step in her educational journey was becoming a Las Cruces Public Schools Board Member for District 2. She will continue to advocate for her community when she is reelected in November. Professional
During Pamela’s time as a high school French teacher, she worked tirelessly for her students in the classroom and through school governance. The students were the reason she went to work every day and stayed an educator for 31 amazing years. In 2012, she had the honor of being selected as the Las Cruces District Teacher of the Year, and then became the New Mexico Teacher of the Year in 2013. Her experiences as Teacher of the Year allowed her to gain a more expansive national view of education and a greater appreciation of how state and district policies directly affect the student population. As a language educator, she promoted cultural and linguistic diversity in her teaching, prompting her English Learners to become leaders in her classroom. She completed her Ed.S degree in 2018, with the bulk of her work concentrated on Culturally and Linguistically Responsive Teaching (CLRT). Pamela’s educator network spreads across the world due to her membership in multiple professional language teacher organizations and her work with the National Network of State Teachers of the Year. Pamela was appointed to the School Board to represent District 2 in July, 2021, and then elected to the position that November for a four year term. She is currently serving as President of the Board. She values and appreciates the Las Cruces community and wants to continue to serve LCPS students and families in her capacity as School Board member. (photo courtesy of Samantha Lewis)

She has traveled to France twelve times with her students and has been lucky enough to visit more than a dozen countries.
